The United Keetoowah
Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma confirmed interested in a casino in South Carolina.
The tribe has teamed up with developers for a casino and hotel near Hilton Head Lakes.
“The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma looks forward to working with our partners to build a first-class resort that creates jobs, attracts tourists and improves the economy,” a spokesperson told The Tahlequah Daily Press.
The tribe would need to have land placed in trust and negotiate a Class III gaming compact. Gov. Nikki Haley (R) has already expressed opposition to the casino despite local support.
