Menominee Nation gains new off-reservation casino partner

The Menominee Nation of Wisconsin has found a new backer for its off-reservation casino.

The tribe will sign an agreement with KMD Consulting Services of California, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The firm replaces the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, which spent $12 million on the project before it was rejected by the Bush administration.

"The tribe doesn't have much money, so it's important to get someone who has the resources and the ability to assist the tribe involved," attorney Rory Dilweg told the paper.

The Obama administration is giving the tribe another chance to make its case. The Mohegans still plan to manage the casino if it's approved.
