The Menominee Nation of
Wisconsin is going over an off-reservation gaming agreement in light of a recent decision from the Obama administration.
The tribe signed an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Kenosha and Kenosha County. It addresses taxation, municipal services and other issues at the proposed gaming site.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs, however, recently rejected another off-reservation casino, saying the intergovernmental agreement did not address jurisdictional concerns.
So the Menominee Nation is taking another look at public safety issues.
As part of a settlement to a lawsuit, the BIA agreed to review the casino again. The BIA will provide an update by October 3, at which time the tribe could be asked to submit more information.
