Rincon Band strikes gaming revenue agreement with county

The Rincon Band of Mission Indians will share gaming revenues directly with San Diego County, California, under an agreement approved on Wednesday.

The tribe is negotiating a new Class III gaming compact with Gov. Jerry Brown (D). The deal will put revenues directly into the county's coffers rather than the state's.

"This money that we're talking about today is several million dollars, every year, coming in," Chairman Bo Mazzetti said of the arrangement, The North County Times reported. "This is the first time ever that two sovereign governments step together ... giving money that is going to address transportation, fire, sheriff's and problem gambling within the county."

The tribe won a lawsuit in federal court that said former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) negotiated in bad faith. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case, Brown v. Rincon Band of Luiseno Mission Indians, earlier this year.
