The Habematolel Pomo of Upper
Lake in California will start work on a casino in September, Chairwoman Sherry Treppa said.
Construction on the tent-like Running Creek Casino is expected to finish in early 2012. “We’re thrilled,” Treppa told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat of the tribe's plans.
The tribe is moving forward now that the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved its Class III gaming compact.
The deal authorizes up to 750 slot machines although the casino will initially offer 349 machines and six table games.
The revenue sharing provisions of the compact take effect only when the tribe operates more than 600 slot machines.
