Kansas governor wants to renegotiate Wyandotte Nation compact

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) wants to renegotiate a Class III gaming compact with the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma.

The tribe reached the deal with former governor Mark Parkinson (D) last year. But Brownback wants to go back to the drawing table.

“We have significant concerns about some of the technical language in the compact. Those things have to be addressed," chief counsel Caleb Stegall told the Associated Press.

The compact allows the tribe to offer slot machines at the 7th Street Casino in downtown Kansas City. It does not cover another casino the tribe is proposing to build near Wichita.
