The Gila River Indian Community of Arizona has come up with a new argument against the off-reservation casino sought by the Tohono O'odham Nation.
The Tohono O'odham Nation acquired the proposed gaming site with land claim settlement funds.
But the Gila River Tribe says a limit set by Congress has already exceeded.
According to Gila River, the Tohono O'odham Nation purchased 3,200 acres in 1987 and another 13,000 acres in 2002.
That apparently exceeds the 9,880-acre limit in the settlement act.
The Tohono O'odham Nation, however, said it hasn't tried to have the 13,000 acres placed in trust. The tribe calls Gila River's claim "meritless."
