A group of 13 Republican state lawmakers want to intervene in a lawsuit against the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino but a federal judge has already rejected a request from one of them.
Sen. Russell Pearce (R) claims the proposed casino violates the interests of state voters. But Judge David Campbell ruled that Pearce can't speak for the entire state or the state Legislature.
Pearce also claims the other parties in the litigation don't represent his interests. But his legal effort is being funded by the city of Glendale -- which filed the lawsuit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
