California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) won't say whether his administration is negotiating a Class III gaming compact with the Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria.
"We keep negotiations private as part of ensuring the integrity of the process," a spokesperson told Capitol Weekly.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has approved the tribe's land-into-trust application and the National Indian Gaming Commission has approved the tribe's gaming management contract.
But without a Class III compact, the tribe will be limited to Class II games on its land.
The tribe has not said publicly whether it will open a Class II facility.
