Appeal weighed in Graton Rancheria casino suit

A group called Stop the Casino 101 Coalition is considering an appeal in its lawsuit against the casino sought by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in California. The group sued the Interior Department, citing alleged injuries from the proposed casino. Judge Susan Illston rejected the claims and said the recently-recognized tribe was entitled to have land placed in trust under an act of Congress. “Obviously, the judge’s decision represents a setback, but represents just one round of a 15-round fight," Petaluma City Council member Mike Healy, one of the plaintiffs, told The Petaluma Argus-Courier. The group could take the case to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Or it might file a different lawsuit over the environmental impact statement for the casino, another plaintiff said. Get the Story:
