The Bureau of Indian Affairs has approved a land-into-trust application for the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in California.
The tribe plans to use the 254-acre site for a casino. The final environmental impact statement had been published in February 2009.
“We’re very happy that the land has finally been taken into trust. It’s long overdue,” said Jack Buckhorn, a director of the Friends of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.
The tribe was recognized by an act of Congress in 2000. The law stated where the tribe could acquire land.
