WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 2003

Nearly 50 bison from Yellowstone National Park were taken to slaughter on Tuesday with 100 more headed to their deaths.

The state of Montana is allowed to shoot bison that wander out of the park. Depending on the time of year, the animals can be killed without testing for brucellosis, a disease that is deadly to cattle.
