The Crow Tribe of Montana has been plagued with scandal and controversy for much of the past decade. New chairman Carl Venne promises to change all that, he tells The Billings Gazette.

"I'm not going to jail," he said, referring to his three predecessors that have been indicted on federal charges. "Things are going to be done right."

Venne fired the tribe's long-time attorney, Majel Russell, laid off tribal employees and made other changes affecting the tribal government. He is also fighting a coalbed methane deal the prior administration signed with a drilling company, saying it is unfair to the tribe.
