TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2002 The chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana resigned, the Associated Press reports. In a resignation letter dated September 5, Clifford Bird in Ground resigned effective immediately. No reason was given for his departure. Bird in Ground is under federal indictment for conspiracy, theft and bribery. He pleaded innocent in May. The charges stem from the use of tribal funds to buy cars at a local automotive dealership.
