Members of Washington's Congressional delegation are preparing to introduce bills to recognize two tribes that were denied federal status by the Bush administration.

Rep. Jim McDermott (D) is finalizing a bill for the Duwamish Tribe. Former Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb denied the tribe preliminary status in September 2001.

Rep. Brian Baird (D) is working on a measure for the Chinook Nation. McCaleb issued a final decision against the tribe in July 2003.
