TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2002 "In some circles, the case of “Obesity vs. MegaBurgers Inc.” is making the rounds. Fast-food restaurants, in most cases, are the villains, but people can forget suing any of these big conglomerates. The verdict is in: If my chubby self and I walk into the restaurant to buy a burger and fries, it is my choice, and there is no one else to blame. That's what a 56-year-old, 5-foot-10, 272-pound New Yorker found out when he tried to sue the likes of McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The case was thrown out. It couldn't hold a tall glass of calorie-laden Coke. But in our fast-paced world, homecooked, all-day roasts and desserts that take two days to fix, are meals of the past - unless you're a Martha Stewart crony, of course. And even she might soon be finding homemade food a lot harder to come by, if current headlines are to be believed. My lifestyle is at risk with every new statistic that jumps off the page. . ."
