Secretary of Interior Gale Norton wants the White House to veto an energy bill if it doesn't allow oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The House version of the bill authorized development but the Senate version did not. A joint House-Senate conference committee is working on a compromise.

At an economic development summit in Arizona, Norton said the compromise bill contains provisions favorable to Indian Country. But if ANWR drilling were rejected, the entire package should be scrapped, she told Reuters.
