Family protests ouster from Redding Rancheria
Monday, October 6, 2003
Members of a family being ousted from the Redding Rancheria in California protested the tribe's leadership on Friday. The tribal council says nine members of the Foreman family can't demonstrate their ties to a tribal ancestor. Fearing more could be disenrolled, the family is appealing the decision to the entire tribal membership. The tribe says the trust fund accounts of disenrolled youth will not be revoked. If all 76 members of the Foreman family are ousted, the per capita payments to the remaining tribal members will go up by $1,000 to $4,000. The tribe denies greed is the motivation for the disenrollment. Get the Story:
