Dave Anderson to be sworn in as head of BIA
Monday, February 23, 2004

Dave Anderson will have his public swearing-in ceremony as head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs today.

The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the auditorium at the Department of Interior's main building on 1849 C St NW in Washington, D.C. The public is invited.

Interior Secretary Gale Norton will do the honors for Anderson, the ninth assistant secretary for Indian affairs. The Senate unanimously confirmed Anderson in December.

Anderson is scheduled to speak to the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) on Tuesday morning. It is his first appearance before the nation's oldest and largest inter-tribal organization.

Anderson is a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Tribe of Wisconsin. His mother is Ojibwe and his father is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Dignitaries from both tribes will attend the ceremony today.
