Witness list for Senate Committee on Indian Affairs legislative hearing

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is convening one more time before going on break for rest of the summer.
On Thursday afternoon, the committee is holding a business meeting that will be immediately followed by a legislative hearing. Two bills are on the agenda for the hearing:
S.4370, Tribal Forest Protection Act Amendments Act of 2024. The bill ensures that Alaska Native corporations can participate in stewardship of federal forest lands. It also addresses a requirement that has limited tribal participation on lands important to their communities.
S.4505, Ohkay Owingeh Rio Chama Water Rights Settlement Act of 2024. The bill settles the water rights of Ohkay Owingeh in the Rio Chama Basin of New Mexico.

The business meeting and legislative hearing take place at 2pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. A livestream will be available on indian.senate.gov.
The U.S. Senate is expected to go on recess for the month of August. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to work in Washington, D.C., following the Labor Day holiday in September.
