TRIBAL ENGAGEMENT SESSION ON E.O. 14112
Monday, January 22, 2024 at 3:30-5:00 p.m. ET
The White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, the White House Domestic Policy Council, the White House Office of Management and Budget, and the White House Council on Native American Affairs (WHCNAA) invite you to a virtual engagement session with Biden-Harris Administration leadership on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 3:30pm – 5:30pm ET, to discuss Executive Order 14112 on Reforming Federal Funding and Support for Tribal Nations to Better Embrace Our Trust Responsibilities and Promote the Next Era of Tribal Self-Determination.
During this engagement session, Biden-Harris Administration leadership and staff from the White House and Federal Departments will discuss the substance and implementation process the Administration is planning for EO 14112. Tribal leaders are invited to ask questions, provide comments, and share their perspectives on how EO 14112 can best meet the needs of their Tribal Nations.
The agenda for the session follows below. Materials will also be available on the WHCNAA website. Tribal leaders are welcome to send any questions regarding the session to whcnaa@bia.gov.

NAFOA invites community members to submit proposals for sessions at our upcoming 42nd Annual Conference on April 29-30 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL. We value the expertise and insights of our diverse community in shaping the conference agenda.
Proposals will be thoroughly evaluated by the NAFOA team to ensure that the selected sessions address our community’s varied needs and interests. We encourage individuals with knowledge and experience in tribal finance, economic development, and related areas to actively participate in this process. Selected speakers receive complimentary registration

4. MEMBER TRIBE NEWS:
MILLE LACS BAND OF OJIBWE ANNUAL EVENT HIGHLIGHTS PRIORITIES, PROGRESS AND CANNABIS PLANS
The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin gave the tribe’s 40th annual State of the Band address on Tuesday. The elected leader said 2023 was a year of progress for the central Minnesota-based tribe.
“I stand before you today with a profound sense of gratitude, pride and responsibility as we look back on the amazing journey we have taken together as a sovereign Indian nation,” said Benjamin.
Speaking to an audience of several hundred Mille Lacs Band members at the tribe’s convention center in Onamia, Benjamin highlighted plans to open a cannabis growing facility.
Benjamin said the decision to get into the cannabis industry was not made lightly and that a majority of band members support the move.

TWENTY NINE PALMS BAND OF MISSION INDIANS SEEKING TRIBAL GRANTS MANAGER
Manages all Tribal Grants operation activities and initiatives.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage directly and indirectly all employees of the Tribal Grants Department. Adhere to the Tribal organization’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities which include but are not limited to: interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
