Senate Committee on Indian Affairs hosts roundtable on upcoming Farm Bill

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is hosting a roundtable to hear about Native priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill.

The Farm Bill is due to be reauthorized by Congress this year. The most recent version contained a number of provisions beneficial for food, agricultural and other programs in American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian communities.

“It’s a significant piece of legislation. We see it as an opportunity,” Roy Baldridge, Second Chief of Shawnee Tribe, said during the winter meeting of the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C., last month.

The roundtable takes place at 2:30pm Eastern on Wednesday in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. The list of participants follows:

In addition to the roundtable, the Native Farm Bill Coalition is monitoring other developments on Capitol Hill in connection to the 2023 reauthorization of the Farm Bill. Members of the coalition are in Washington, D.C., this week to discuss Native priorities.
