NEWLY APPOINTED TREASURER OF THE UNITED STATES, CHIEF LYNN MALERBA SPEAKING AT #NAFOAFALL22

NAFOA is excited to welcome Lynn Malerba, Lifetime Chief of the Mohegan Tribe and the first Native American Treasurer of the United States to address the opening general session at NAFOA’s 2022 Fall Finance & Tribal Economies Conference on Monday, October 3rd.

Hear about the Treasury’s newly established Office of Tribal and Native Affairs. Chief Malerba will also be honored as a NAFOA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient during the awards luncheon on Tuesday, October 4th.

2. WEBINARS:

STARTING TODAY! WEBINAR SERIES: HOW TO USE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FINANCING TO BUILD ENERGY PROJECTS

NAFOA, the Departments of Interior, Energy, the Treasury, and Commerce, along with experts in the energy and finance sector is hosting a series of webinars designed to show how tribes can take advantage of a broad array of funding sources.

From August 22-25, Experts will discuss what tribes need to know about combining various programs and grants, financing pitfalls to be aware of and how to avoid them, how funding sources can “stack” together on one project, and more.

This series will be spread out over four days, each with a different focus. Registration is required to join. Only one registration to attend all of the webinar series is necessary.

3. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:

INDIAN AFFAIRS SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR 2022 NATIONAL TRIBAL BROADBAND GRANT PROGRAM

National Tribal Broadband Grant Program award funding will be used to support Tribe’s planning to install or expand broadband internet, which is high-speed internet access that is always on and faster than the traditional dial-up access, including that delivered through digital subscriber line (DSL), cable, fiber optic, wireless, satellite and broadband over power lines.

The Office of Indian Economic Development seeks to fund approximately 15 to 27 grants, ranging in value from $100,000 to $175,000, and eligibility is limited to federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribal entities as listed in 87 FR 4636. These grants will be for a two-year term.

OIED is administering the NTBG, which is a competitive discretionary program, through its Division of Economic Development. The solicitation will be posted on the Grants.gov website under the “Search Grants” tab. Proposals must be submitted via Grants.gov. EXECUTIVE SMALL BUSINESS INTRO ENTREPRENEUR CLASS

Operation HOPE & the Minority Business Development Agency have teamed up to offer aan 8-week Entrepreneurship Training Program.

This free of cost class is designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools and skills to successfully navigate the path to small business ownership—combining business training, personal development, access to professional services, and financial counseling. A primary objective of this class is to have an established professional business plan by the end of week 8.

5. JOBS:

OMAHA TRIBE OF NEBRASKA IS SEEKING GRANT ADMINISTRATOR

Under the supervision of the Grant Administrator Supervisor, the Grant Administrator has the primary responsibility to oversee the administration of the Tribe’s grants and P.L. 93-638 Contracts, including ensuring accurate and efficient collection and reporting of grant/ contract data, maintenance and oversight of workflow processes and procedures, and grant/ contract compliance.
