The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals hears arguments in Apache Stronghold v. United States, No. 21-15295, on October 22, 2021.

The case centers on Oak Flat, a sacred Apache site in Arizona. The Apache Stronghold is seeking to protect the land from a large copper mine.

The Apache Stronghold has been authorized by the San Carlos Apache Tribe to advocate for Oak Flat. The site, located on federal land managed by the U.S. Forest Service, is known as Chi’chil Biłdagoteel in the Apache language.

The hearing lasted about 50 minutes. It is not known when a decision will be issued.
