Learn and laugh at the NAFOA Fall Virtual Conference! In between our informative sessions, enjoy a comedic break with stand-up comedian, actor & podcast host Marc Yaffee.

Marc Yaffee is a founder and co-star of the Powwow Comedy Jam (2010 National Indian Gaming Association Entertainers of the Year). Additionally, Marc has also been seen on PBS, FNX, The Latino Laugh Festival, and Comics Unleashed. He’s performed six times overseas for Armed Forces Entertainment and he won the Ventura Comedy Festival’s “Funniest Person Contest” in 2012.

USDA RELEASES COVID-19 FEDERAL RURAL RESOURCE GUIDE

The USDA and its federal partners recently released the COVID-19 Federal Rural Resource Guide. This guide details programs that can be used to provide immediate and long-term assistance to rural communities affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

These programs support recovery efforts for rural residents, businesses, and communities through:

• Technical, training, and management assistance
• Financial assistance
• State and local assistance

This resource guide organizes funding opportunities identified in stimulus bills and other federal resources that can help support rural areas.

3. JOBS:

FMA FINANCIAL AUDITOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 19

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is seeking a Financial Auditor Undergraduate Intern (GS-4) and a Financial Auditor Graduate Intern (GS-7). 

As a GAO intern, you will receive training and learn how to conduct federal audits and program evaluations as part of a team. You will assist GAO audit teams in planning and conducting in-depth reviews of executive and legislative branch programs. You will assist audit teams to collect appropriate data, analyze the data, develop databased findings and conclusions, and present the information both orally and in writing to diverse audiences.

Important:  Undergraduates must have 12 credits in accounting classes (6 credits can be business law) by the time they start the internship. Graduates must have 24 credits in accounting classes (6 can be business law) by the time they start. 

4.  PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
ENROLL IN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY’S INTERMEDIATE TRIBAL FINANCIAL AND ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATE

The OSU Intermediate Tribal Finance and Accounting Academy consists of:

• 4 week program (two 3 hour days a week) in late October through November
• Participants can receive up to 28 hours of CPE credit
• Gain knowledge and experience to help you become a more effective tribal finance/accounting professional and leader
• Interact with and learn from other tribal finance/accounting professionals throughout the state and beyond

5. FOR STUDENTS:  
WELLS FARGO GIVES $1 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO BRIDGE FINANCIAL GAPS FACED BY STUDENTS AMIDST COVID-19

Students dedicated to making a positive difference in the world offer the greatest hope for the future, but for many their plans are threatened due to the unexpected financial gap posed by COVID-19 – sometimes prohibiting them from continuing and completing college. Wells Fargo wants to help close that gap by launching the Wells Fargo Student Impact Scholarship. This new initiative will provide 200 students with $5,000 each – funds that could help them cover various costs for their instruction and potentially make the difference in being able to continue their education. Wells Fargo’s commitment will go beyond financial assistance to include an optional mentorship opportunity to provide ongoing guidance for these students.

The program, which will begin accepting applications on Sept. 14, will be administered with long-standing partner APIA Scholars to students entering college and current college undergraduates for the Spring 2021 semester. The financial aid will be able to help cover costs of education like books, computers, materials to support distance learning, tuition, and housing.
