A member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana who supports the Washington NFL team's racist mascot has a problem with a different Indian mascot.

Donald Wetzel says he doesn't like the Kansas City team's "Chiefs" mascot. He's proud of the Washington name though.

“If they called me ‘Chief,’ now that got to me," Wetzel told The Washington Post. "But if they had said ‘Redskin,’ I would have said, ‘You’re damn right.’ ”

Wetzel is a son of the late Walter “Blackie” Wetzel, a former Blackfeet Nation chairman and a former president of the National Congress of American Indians. He said his father would be proud to see the Washington team's logo.

There are conflicting stories about the logo, however. Wetzel and the team claim the elder Wetzel designed and approved it but other accounts have him suggesting it or approving it.

"Right now, anybody still fighting for it, they’re on the wrong side of history,” Bill Wetzel, who is Wetzel's grandson, told the Post.
