Duane Big Eagle, the former chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, is appealing his conviction on bribery charges.

Big Eagle, 62, was convicted of accepting bribes from contractors who did business with the tribe. He was sentenced to three years in prison but has yet to turn himself in to federal authorities, The Mitchell Daily Republic reported.

Big Eagle's brief to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals is due by February 8, the paper said.
