New Mississippi Choctaw chief to be inaugurated on October 4

Phyliss J. Anderson, the newly elected leader of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, will be sworn into office on October 4.

Anderson defeated one-term chief Beasley Denson in an election last week. She is the first woman to lead the tribe.

"We are looking forward to Inauguration Day," Anderson told The Jackson Clarion-Ledger "It will be a day of great celebration and unity for our tribal people. "
