Testimony resumes in trial of Aquash murder defendant
Testimony resumed on Monday in the trial of a man accused of murdering American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash

Judge Lawrence Piersol refused to grant a mistrial on Friday after a witness for the government made comments that tied defendant Richard Marshall, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, to former AIM leader Russell Means. But AIM continued to come up during testimony yesterday, The Rapid City Journal reported.

The consistent rumor in the case is that Aquash was murdered because people in AIM believed she was a government informant. The government has denied that she was.

Marshall is accused of providing the gun that was used to kill Aquash on the Pine Ridge Reservation in December 1975. The man who allegedly pulled the trigger, John Graham, will face charges in state court.
