"So, the Herald’s editorial board is saying that it’s not fair to cut this debate off prematurely, that voices should be heard and that for the board to decide before Standing Rock has had its say doesn’t seem right.
Give the Standing Rock Sioux more time so they can have a vote, the editorial continues.
And if the vote is overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the name like it was at Spirit Lake, then the higher education board should make its decision.
But the agreement with the NCAA is the vote. It is the decision.
When Standing Rock votes to keep the name, the state will have satisfied its agreement with the NCAA. That means we won. It doesn’t mean we came in second."
