EchoHawk, the new head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, addressed the Conference of Western Attorneys General on Monday.
EchoHawk, a member of the Pawnee Nation of
Oklahoma, urged state attorneys general to work with tribes and the federal government on crime, jurisdiction and law enforcement. "Crimes, drug abuse and gangs know no boundaries," he said, The Idaho Mountain Express reported.
In 1990, EchoHawk became the first Native American to be elected as a state attorney general. He served the state of Idaho for four years.
