The Native American Health Center in Oakland, California, is hoping to tap into the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act but the group's executive is frustrated by the lack of information about the process.
"This large amount of money is coming down, and nobody can give us an answer of how we can get some budget to offset this increased demand," Martin Waukazoo told The Capitol Weekly.
The bill includes funds for the Indian Health Service but Waukazoo said he doesn't know whether urban Indian organizations can apply. Most of the outreach has focused on tribes.
"I don’t know of any urban program that has received or even been approached about the possibilities of accessing some of those funds," Waukazoo said.
