"You don't have to have a long memory to recall instances of tribal mismanagement of funds.
The nearly 400 representatives who went to an education conference in Hawaii.
The rings purchased for every member of the Navajo Council.
The invisible egg farm that was paid for, but never materialized.
The manufacturing plant that had its paychecks bounce.
The extent of the damage isn't entirely known, but what we do know is that this is a terribly poor track record and one hard to trust.
But whether the Navajo Nation is fiscally responsible or not, the fact is that there are serious quality-of-life and infrastructure problems that only can be solved with money. This is why our representatives in Washington fought to secure almost $40 million out of the recent American Reinvestment and Recovery Act to go to the Navajo Nation. The money is needed."
