Incumbent Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) officially won the Alaska Republican primary on Thursday after his opponent declined to seek a recount.

Young defeated Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who was endorsed by Gov. Sarah Palin (R), the Republican vice presidential nominee, by just 304 votes. Parnell said he will stand by the results even though he is entitled to a recount.

Young will face Ethan Berkowitz, who won the Democratic primary in August. Berkowitz defeated Diane Benson, a Tlingit woman.

Young, who is under federal investigation for his ties to lobbyists, is the ranking Republican on the House Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over Indian issues.
