Members of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa of Wisconsin elected a new president on Tuesday.
Carl W. Edwards defeated incumbent Victoria Doud, who came in third behind a write-in candidate, the Associated Press reported. Vice President Dee Ann Mayo was re-elected.
Doud has been under fire for the state of the tribe's finances. Critics accused her of orchestrating the removal of two council members who criticized her and forcing the removal of five candidates from the ballot for yesterday's election.
