Tensions continue among members of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa who oppose President Victoria Dowd.
Dowd's supporters have started their own encampment. The tribal council also ordered the removal of the Ginew group but a deadline came and went on Wednesday.
The tribe is asking Congress, through a provision in
H.R.5680, for approval to mortgage its fee land in order to pay off some debts. The House Natural Resources Committee was going to mark up the bill on Wednesday but it is still being worked on.
