The Rhode Island Supreme Court is being asked to block Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) from testifying about his role in the state's raid of the Narragansett Reservation.
Carcieri ordered the July 14, 2003, raid to shut down a tax-free smokeshop. He claims he told state troopers to withdraw if they encountered resistance.
But the former state police superintendent testified that Carcieri never gave the withdrawal order.
Seven tribal members, including Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas, were arrested after clashing with troopers.
The Supreme Court is meeting today to consider whether it should hear Carcieri's case.
