R.I. to appeal Narragansett land-into-trust case
Wednesday, October 1, 2003
The state of Rhode Island plans to appeal a federal judge's ruling in favor of a land-into-trust acquisition for the Narragansett Tribe. The tribe plans to use the 31 acres for housing. The land is outside the tribe's settlement area and the judge said the tribe has full self-government powers over it. The state and the town of Charlestown allege the land can be used for a casino.
