Panel 2 | Q&A
The Navajo Nation's top housing official testified at the Senate Indian Affairs Committee's hearing on Indian housing last week.

Aneva Yazzie, chief executive officer for Navajo Housing Authority, said the federal government needs to provide more funding to implement the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act. She said funding levels should be based on tribal enrollment figures.

"In the last decade the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act has been a useful tool in our Nation's work. The hallmarks of the law self-determination and tribal decision-making are what make it successful," Yazzie told the committee.

NAHASDA expires later this year. The committee considered draft legislation to reauthorize the law.
