Senate confirmation hearing for Dr. Grim of IHS

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a confirmation hearing this Thursday for Dr. Charles Grim to be director of the Indian Health Service.

Grim is a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. He worked for the IHS for more than 20 years when he was nominated and confirmed as director in July 2003 [Biography].

In May, President Bush nominated Grim to a second term. "I am honored to be nominated for a second term and am eager to continue our work to elevate the health status of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest possible level. Our close collaboration, consultation, and partnership with the tribes is the cornerstone of the health improvements we’ve gained and that we envision in the future," he said at the time [PDF]

The hearing takes place at 9:30am in Room 485 of the Russell Senate Office Building. A witness list hasn't been released.
