New Mississippi Choctaw chief takes office

For the first time in nearly 30 years, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will get a new chief.

Beasley Denson will be sworn in this morning as leader of the tribe. He defeated longtime chief Phillip Martin by 211 votes.

The swearing-in ceremony takes place at the tribe's Silver Star Convention Center. Denson supporters are calling it a historic event.

Some of Martin's supporters filed a letter with the tribal election committee but it wasn't meant as a challenge. Martin conceded defeat last week.
