The Catawba Nation of South Carolina will hold its first meeting on Saturday under new leadership.
Buck George is serving as interim chief. He is the tribe's first new leader in more than 30 years, having replaced longtime chief Gilbert Blue, who resigned in March.
The tribe will be holding a new election for chief and for five executive committee seats on July 21.
If all goes well, it will be the first official election since the tribe was recognized by an act of Congress in 1993.
The tribe also has to adopt a new constitution and has to resolve financial problems that led to a massive layoff of employees.
