The Catawba Nation of South Carolina says its adult education program is a big success.

The ISWA Adult Literacy and GED Even Start program began in February 2005. The program emphasizes adult and family learning.

Participants say the program has changed their lives. Marcella Dease, 26, was able to earn her GED and is on her way to a technical college. Dwayne Simon, 25, also received a GED and enrolled in college.

According to the tribe, 64 percent of adult members 25 and older do not have a high school diploma. The drop-out rate is 32 percent.
