BIA school evacuated following threat of violence

A Bureau of Indian Affairs school on the Navajo Nation was placed on lockdown and evacuated on Monday after a threat of violence was directed at students.

Someone called the Dilkon Community School in Arizona early in the morning and said he would start shooting at students, The Gallup Independent. George Joe, publisher of Rez Biz Magazine, said a BIA education line officer told him a bomb threat was made.

Some students were eating breakfast in the cafeteria at the time of the call. They were told to wait there as tribal police began a sweep of the school, Joe said on his blog.

The school eventually bussed all the students home at around 9am. They were back to work on Tuesday.
