The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed to acquire 750 acres in trust for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota.

The tribe announced the BIA's decision on Monday. It comes after more than six years of review and after the BIA in 1998 rejected a similar application, citing the tribe's wealth.

The application was opposed by Scott County. Officials there sought to impose land-use conditions on the 750 acres and wanted to prevent the tribe from making future applications within 20 years.

The tribe plans to use the land for housing.
