Conservative Christian activist Ralph Reed received more than $5 million from Jack Abramoff's wealthy tribal clients even though he says he is opposed to gaming.
Reed was paid to oppose gaming in Texas, Alabama and Louisiana. But the payments from Abramoff's tribal clients were funneled through other organizations in order to keep them a secret.
"He's Christian Coalition. It wouldn't look good if they're receiving money from a casino operating tribe to oppose gambling," a former leader said, according to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee report released yesterday.
Reed is running for lieutenant governor of Georgia. His ties to Abramoff, a longtime friend, have been a campaign issue.
