Senate Indian Affairs hearing on Tribal Parity Act


The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing this morning on S.374, the Tribal Parity Act, and S.1535, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Equitable Compensation Amendments Act

S.374 would add money to the trust accounts of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. The two tribes lost valuable land, sacred sites and other property to dams that were built on the Missouri River.

S.1535 would provide compensation to members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe who lost land to the Missouri River dam projects. A previous act of Congress established a trust fund for the tribe.
