Narragansett Tribe removes 100 people from rolls

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island has removed at least 100 people from the rolls, saying they fail to meet membership criteria.

The group, including former tribal council member Yvette Champlain, says the decision is unfair and its based on greed. The disenrolled members held a protest outside the tribe's community center on Saturday as the tribal council was meeting.

The tribe requires members to demonstrate that his or her ancestors were on the Narragansett roll of 1880. Since 1994, no new members have been enrolled except for newborns, The Providence Journal reports.
