The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota is continuing to share its financial success with Indian Country.

The tribe's latest grant is $808,473 to the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. The Poncas will use the money for debt reduction and economic development. Previously, the Shakopees gave the Poncas a $100,000 grant to help out with an environmental lawsuit.

The Shakopee Tribe also made recent grants to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe of Minnesota ($1,000,000) for casino construction; the Spirit Lake Nation of North Dakota ($1,000,000) for economic development; the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota ($1,000,000) for an elderly housing complex; the Upper Sioux Community of Minnesota ($750,000) for infrastructure development; the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska ($800,000) for community improvements and tribal programs; the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota ($750,000) for housing initiatives; and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska ($250,000) for an indoor aquatic center, according to The Native American Times.
