The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is offering to share its Bureau of Indian Affairs road money with local communities.
The tribe, located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, receives money through the Indian Reservation Roads program. "We're looking at ways the tribe can assist the Island and others towns on some projects," tribal planner Durwood Vanderhoop was quoted as saying.
The tribe is proposing to add several roads to its IRR inventory. Vanderhoop said the list hasn't changed in several years.
Other tribes across the country already share their money with local communities.
